What Is Fam Anon Actually?

Families Anonymous is a world-wide fellowship of family members and friends who have been affected by another's abuse of mind-altering substances or related behavioural problems. It has groups, which grow throughout the whole nation and meet frequently. You don't have to be a member to attend the meetings, it is encouraged that any worried person does.

Several families in the UK founded Family Anonymous in 1971. In the United Kingdom, the first group started operating in 1980, and currently, there are over 50 groups in different parts of the country.


The fellowship is first formulated by Alcoholic Anonymous and is a self-help organisation with a programme based on the 12 Steps and 12 Traditions.


How Can It Help?

The main objective of Fam Anon is to provide a platform by giving common support and offer a discussion where you can share your problems and experiences for those people especially family members and friends who are present, suspected or previous drugs and liquor addicts. The group members learn how to come to terms with the problem disturbing their lives.

Our work has shown that providing assistance to family and friends of an addict means a great deal to the person with drug related issues.


Group meetings encourage addicts to learn from others experience how to quit addiction. This approach helps them to understand that they need to live without using drugs and alcohol.

FamAnon gets their work done in several different ways. Its core strength originates from sharing of general issues. Memberships and meetings are all completely free. Fam Anon does not request or acknowledge any financing from different outside organisation. Fam Anon is funded by voluntary donations from the members and by the sale of the Fam Anon books and other writing forms, while everything is run by volunteers.


Only first names are used in gatherings, as FamAnon is an anonymous programme.
